With the beginning of 2016, the high-profile development project of the United Nations concludes after fifteen years. Since then, the world has changed drastically: technology has revolutionized the way we see the world, and globalization is further increasing connections between countries. However, not everything has improved: new dangers such as heightened terrorism and cyber-attacks have threatened international security.
The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) set the stage for the world to begin to improve, and to fix society's problems. They shaped not only domestic and national policies, but also became central to today's multilateral problem-solvers. However, with each ending comes a new beginning. With the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the United Nations embarks on a tougher project for progress, and remains ever so resolute in its fight for peace. The ideas though pose a problem: some people think that it is too much to expect of the world, and thus do not believe they can be achieved.
Through the theme of setting a global agenda, we urge you to think about how we, as citizens of the world, can meet the targets we need to provide a future for our children.
